As one of the most important trades in Australia, plumbing is a time-honoured and well-respected industry across the globe. In fact, according to IBISWorld, there are more than 25,000 plumbing businesses across the country, employing over 50,000 individuals.

However, the critical nature of plumbing to our society is often overlooked, highlighting the value of events such as World Plumbing Day (WPD). Held every year on March 11 around the globe, the day hopes to educate and provide information around how plumbing impacts both community safety and sustainability.

In Victoria, the Plumbing Industry Climate Action Centre (PICAC) will host WPD and has planned a number of events to showcase the occupation, new technology and processes that will continue to drive the industry forward. This includes a Plumbing Industry Forum, a Plumbing Trades Expo, a luncheon and skill competitions.

Preparing for the future: Technology, Skills and Environment

World Plumbing Day at PICAC is an excellent chance for businesses, sponsors and guests to network.

As the theme running through this year’s WPD, the events have a key focus on the issues impacting the industry and how businesses can continue growing in the future. Of course, this is a great opportunity for local plumbing enterprises and professionals to get a sense of what areas they should be targeting and how they can reach their goals.

It is also critical to address the impending skill shortage facing industries across the country. As the baby boomer generation starts to retire, plumbing businesses have to start thinking about succession planning and recruiting for the years ahead.

World Plumbing Day at PICAC is an excellent chance for businesses, sponsors and guests to network and establish good relationships while gaining valuable insight into the industry as a whole.
